Total Produce Local

For over 50 years we’ve been supplying the very best fresh produce, both local and global, to customers right across the south west.

Welcome to Bristol WHOLESALE

Back in 1957 Dai Matthews and his good friend Eric Smith were lorry salesmen for Crocker Williams, wholesale fruit & vegetable merchants based in Bristol’s old fruit market just north of Bristol Bridge. They decided to branch out on their own, bought a couple of second hand lorries, rented a yard in Bedminster and thus Bristol Fruit Sales (today Total Produce Bristol) was born.

Dai and Eric built up a good business supplying the retail trade but it was the next generation, David Matthews and Robert Smith, that really took things forward. They developed a wholesale business, a cornerstone of Bristol’s new market that opened in ’68, and launched satellite depots in Cornwall, Cardiff and Devon.

Nowadays Dai’s grandson Nick Matthews heads up a team staffed by locals with a wealth of experience and local knowledge.

We all live in and around Bristol and most of us have worked here for many years, some of us for all our working lives and some of us for more than that. Our General Manager Tony Clemence is the third generation of his family to work in the industry.

We’re really proud of our Growfair scheme which works in partnership with the region’s best growers to promote their provenance and ensures that they get the support and financial commitment they need for a secure future. Since its debut the scheme has gone from strength to strength, winning a BBC Food & Farming award in 2009 and two Grower of the Year Awards in 2010.

We supply an unbeatable range of fresh produce both from our three stands in Bristol market and via our fully refrigerated fleet that deliver direct to customers across the region. If you’re looking for the best, and best value, then get in touch.
